A "FRESH" Change of Pace

Hello everyone. It has been many months since I have posted on here, so I figured I'd get back to sharing some of my adventures on the water...

Buddy an I went out to a private lake near Amelia Island and launched the kayaks to see if the bass have started to spawn yet, or at the least began the early staging of pre-spawn. We didn't see any beds yet, the water was still on the cooler side, and the bite was a very slow one. Had to earn every fish by working the baits slow off the bottom. Ended up with 9 fish total between us with biggest around 3.5lbs. All the fish came in that 2-5ft depth range that pre-spawn fish should be hanging out, but they weren't nearly as aggressive as should of been. I think after this week of hot weather might get the bass moving up more getting ready. Which I can't wait as I have caught my PB 10.20lbs, and many 8,7, & 6lbers out of this body of water. Yes the stick bait/worm I was throwing is an ugly color, but for some reason the fish liked it after throwing just about everything else in my tackle box before without much luck.

Hopefully I can post some more picks here soon as the spawn starts to happen. Tight lines everyone.

Nice report!

They should be bedding already. They've been bedding here in the Jax Beaches area for a few weeks. We caught 13 pond bass, off beds, 2 days ago. I agree, as it gets a little warmer, they'll be more aggressive.

Hate to sound negative, but isn't spawning time when you should be protecting them and encouraging them to reproduce ??

They're probably releasing the fish, most bass fishermen do. If not, there are plenty of bass to go around, bass are actually overpopulated in many smaller bodies of water, you'll catch tons but none of decent size.

Totally legit question.

There's no shortage of bass in these ponds, and lots of little ones too. If fishing the beds has an adverse effect on the spawn, it's very minimal.

......and after saying that, today I fished a few beds along with a good stretch of river with a friend.  He picked up a 4.6# on one......and released it.  Fun day.

You're right. That is an ugly bait nephew!🤣🤣  I caught 5 in the pond tonight. Biggest was about 1.5lbs.

I'll see if I can't one up ya on Friday. One catfish and I'll double you total weight.
