Headed down there this weekend, and looking for a report. Anyone know what is going on down there? Taking a baseball team down and looking to put them on anything from tarpon to trout.
Weather has been "challenging" (winds 15 to 25 the last three days...) so not many have been fishing I had two days booked, fished Monday - and after what my anglers saw..they cancelled Tuesday (can't say I blame them...). Usual cold front BS - water temps drop winds start howling and you wait until it settles down... The good news? Still finding some very nice sized snook along the edges of Whitewater Bay - but they weren't eating any of our flies... The first of the good sized trout are also beginning to show up inside.. Our best fish this past week? A very nice pompano up inside Whitewater...
Just before the front kicked up - note the heavy, wet fog in the background... pompano ate a small leadhead with a plastic tail....
Thanks for the info lemay, looks like we'll have a fantastic weather window this weekend, so i'm hoping the tarpon will be active in whitewater bay and around the shark river delta. Any baitfish present this time of year? last year we were able to find threadfins on the channel markers out towards florida bay... if nothing is around I have a box full of plastics.
In the interior most of the live bait we use are small to medium sized ladyfish that we catch ourselves while fisning other species. I'll be down at Flamingo today (very late trip) and tomorrow - and yes, waters are warming up enough to maybe have some tarpon showing up...
Ended up killing the snook/reds on Saturday out in the gulf. Once we found clean water it was really good fishing. For some reason though Sunday couldn't get a bite... ended up snapper fishing to finish off the trip.
