Longest Flats Boat

HoundingaroundHoundingaround Posts: 2 Greenhorn
Does anyone know who made the longest flats boat. I remember reading an article quite a while back about a 28' flats boat that floated in 8" of water.
I'm looking for the longest flats boat, waterline length, that will give me the nicest ride in a nasty chop and more. I am not going to be poling it. I am not interested in a Bay Boat.

Before you go down that rabbit hole looking for a really long "flats boat"... You might want to get a close look at a standard Egret (the 18'9" model).  I work out of a flats boat and have for many years.  To actually fish out of one that Egret is probably the biggest I'd ever consider - and it rides like a much bigger skiff...  If you're like me you probably can't afford it (and I don't own one at all - but I do get to run them occasionally for their owners....).  It's a first class ride while still able to get up relatively shallow and be able to be poled when desired...

Good luck on your search - and post up what you find with a pic or two if possible.

Young makes a Gulfshore that’s pretty long. They have a tunnel hull and probably run shallow. Upper tier boat.

Did you also post this on THT?  If not, you should check out the same thread there.  Bay boats can have a design closely resembling a flats boat or a center console and everything in-between.  So when you say you don't want a bay boat, you may not be imagining the same boats as others.  When you get longer than 21' feet, the only difference between a flats boat and some bay boats is the deck.

Some "bay boats" that are closer to a flats boat design than a CC are the Yellowfin 24, Cape Horn 23 Bay, Billfish 24, Contender 25 Bay, SeaVee 27.  None are drafting 8" even empty.

A Chittum 21 is supposed to be somewhere around 8-10" but I've never seen real-world measurements.  I feel confident in saying that is your shallowest drafting FL style 21' boat boat though.

Then there are the TX style flats boat like a Shallow Sport.

My advice.... buy a 21' Egret and call it a day.

Sure a 27' flat bottom Carolina Skiff with the right motor will do that.
