Advice on Everglades trip with 10 year old

My boy wants to do an Everglades trip this summer, which could mean just about anything. We’d probably do 3 days, not camp (learned my lesson when I was a kid), ideally one day of the itinerary would include going after snook. He really wants to see a crocodile. But open to suggestions as that’s not a lot of time to explore everything.

Best bet to camp in a house boat in flamingo. It's not cheap at  300.00 a night but you leave it hooked up to shore, have a bed and most important......A/C.  That will be your base camp and then take your boat out back or out front.  There are crocs in the marina.  That's one idea at least.  I just did this on November and it was AWESOME!

Flamingo isn't a bad option.  Another option is go to Everglades City and stay at Everglades Adventures hotel at Ivy House and then rent the 15' Mako from Chokoloskee Island Marina.......Restaurants and etc are there.

Any time of year you can find great fishing out of Flamingo - particularly for a young ‘un….

There are always crocodiles right at the marina (as well as larger  numbers of them in the tributaries that drain the Cape Sable area into East Cape canal…).  From small hungry fish that can provide lots of action for kids you’ll have a great shot at hooking a kid onto a trophy or a fish that’s bigger than they are if you want…

For a single day trip your best bet is to stay at one of the many motels and hotels in the Homestead/ Florida City area -then drive the fifty miles down to Flamingo for that day’s fishing… Staying down at Flamingo for a few days, either on a houseboat or camping is do-able - but in summer you’ll be coping with clouds of mosquitoes… Right now we’ve got our share of skeeters, but nothing like it is in summer…

Anyone wanting a kid friendly guide?  If you send me an email request… I’ll send you my brochure… [email protected]
