Friday afternoon Cobias - 2 for 3

Ran out Friday afternoon -

First bait down gets hit hard, starts running away and towards the surface. Loosen the drag some, feels like a cobia,,, wait for it to surface and  it's a cobia!   Gaff him and then another shows up on the surface.

Tossed a cigar minnow and he doeasn't really want it. Switched to a spanish sardine and he went nuts - chased it down and im on again.  Gaffed him and then the Dad showed up. Another spanish sardine and I'm on. Unfortunately this guy is prob 70+ and I grabbed a snapper rod as it was the only free line ready(20lb leader).. I fought him for about 15 min  and then he made a long , deep run and it was over.

Should have took the time to tie a new hook on the rod i just used.

If I understand the regulations correctly, if you were in state waters, the vessel limit is 2 cobia.  However, if you were in federal waters, you were allowed 2 cobia per person.

yep - my son asked me that when i was on with the 3rd one .. I had him check it on my phone to be sure.

Ok, so how can you fish in federal waters with a bigger limit and not go into state waters on the way in and not be in violation. Insane!!!

There are two ways to do it.  One is to turn on tracking on your GPS and prove you were in federal waters.  The second is to put on your honest face and claim to the FWC that you were in federal waters.  I used to live in the Panhandle and would cross into Alabama waters where regulations were different (had an Alabama license too).  Same dilemma, but never had a problem.

The way to do it is to NOT STOP in State water on the way to the ramp.

And that's why they taste to dang good! Same with Hogfish and tripletail. Some crab eating sob's!

yep so good. We made sushi, ceviche, asian, blackened & Italian style
