Saturday - 11-13 nearshore bottom fishing

Fished Saturday out of Mayport in about 60 feet of water. I'm mostly an inshore guy but like to try to put some fish in the fryer when I can. Unfortunately, just far too many snapper around to make it interesting. Ended up with 50+ red snapper, anywhere from little bitty guys on the sabiki rig to 20 pounders on live grunts. Also had 15+ sea bass and about 5 gag grouper. Couple of the gags were close to keeper size and 2 sea bass were keeper size.

That sounds like a fun day. How far offshore to get to a location like that? We have a 21 ft center console and haven’t gone out much past the jetties. Thanks for the report!!

There are quite a few spots between 7 and 10 miles out of Mayport and St. Augustine. I am in a 22' bay boat, but have fished spots up to 17 miles out in my previous 18' flats boat. It's fun, especially for kids

@windblows -  Your report is the sole reason I sold my big boat and got a bay boat.  Starts to wear on the weekend guys to push out 40-60 miles to pick up something to take home.  My new bay boat will work just fine inside 20.  Thanks for the report.  Nice to know that if the almighty gov suits ever come to their senses that the Snaps are within reach for small boaters.
