United Composites Tilefish Rod for Yankee Capts Dry Tortugas?

I usually dont post here in the Keys section.

So I am looking to do my first trip on Yankee Capts late this year or early 2022. I am looking to put together a quality setup for the Pulley Ridge Lite trip.

I know where Yankee Capts recommends Calstar rods. I have also seen online on forums where many people like the newer United Composites Tilefish rods, although many are out of California and use them on long range boats for tuna.

Has anyone used the United Composites Tilefish rod? 8'  fast action 30-60lb

I am just looking for something high quality that could handle heavier weights needed for deep bottom fishing and could also be used near my hometown in Palm Beach County where the Gulfstream current rips and heavy weight is needed.

Thanks in advance.

I've never heard of UC before and was just checking them out.

My YC Deep Drop rod is a 8' 40-80 rainshadow blank Andy built for me at Gen X. I had him do all SIC guides, and a aluminum reel seat. Don't remember if we did 20', or 24' on the butt. Did a longer foregrip with little taper for the rail. It's got a supple tip section, and strong back bone for swinging 2-5lb + lead's. I did a trip before the build, and had a good idea of what I wanted threw experience.

I've never done a pully light, only Rankin/queen trips usally we fish 500-900'. I've heard he runs a little shallower on the lite trips.

99% of my time is spent Slow Jigging, and bait is for my girlfriend, or when Greg yell's at me to switch!

Th19999, I may be able to help answer your question or provide some insight.  I fish the YC and have done several PR lite trips, in fact my next one is on Nov 11.  I built both a Calstar GF 800h which is 8’ and rated for 30-80# line.  I use this one as my bait rod on this trip as I like a longer rod for fishing bait.  I also built a United Composite CE 700XH rated for 30-50# this is a 7’ rod and weighs less than a pound and is an unbelievable blank.  I use this rod to toss 10oz hammered jigs.  I carry throw this all day and it does not beat me up.  I pair the rods wither either Accurate boss 500, Tern 500 or Avet SX 6/4 2 speed.  I live in west palm as well and use the 7’ UC on my boat all the time for everything; mutton’s, grouper dolphin, snook, tarpon. The Calstar 8’ is too long for me in my boat in my opinion.  Bottom line any of these rods will work great. I have just used them it a little bit more of a targeted approach.  Both of these rods are expensive. The Calstar blank is 146 and the UC is probably around 250 just for the blank. A finished Calstar will run at least 250 I think, maybe more and a UC will probably be north of 300
