C.R. trip 9/28/21 grouper

I haven't been out on my old Sport Craft since last December and it needed running. It also needs cleaning but first things first.   JTS (John) is back from his Northern foray and was eager to get out again. 

Weather was post card perfect with a SSW breeze and a long outgoing tide from 8 to 3. 
We met at FIT ramp at 8:15 and were off.



Wasn't sure about the floating grass so took a box of herring and a block of chum. Ended up bringing it back home.. Grass was light and only pulled one plug the rest of the day.
Got a keeper pretty quick then another along with some 20" throw backs and made a move.

Picked up the big gag of the day there.  Well it's 11:20 and one more tops out our limit. Couple shorts with one getting stuck before coming in. Plug goes out while I'm wondering if I should retie...  Bait gets hammered by a good one and bye bye Mr. plug..  
Bummer , was a nice one and we would be done..  Messed around and got a small keeper to finish up. 
Odd thing.. The plug had got fouled with grass and came to the top so John started reeling in to clear it , I dropped to idle. It bounced and grabbed again and as it started to dive while reeling..     A gag slammed it ! Was biggest of the day at 14 on Boga.




Nice ride home in perfect weather with roughly 35lb limit.   



Water was really clear and is cooling so bite will improve but I have hunting obligations and some bass tournaments to deal with. Post up your catches !

NICE!    I've had them hit a plug while i was sitting in neutral fiddling with something else in the boat.   After that lesson learned pull everything in you're not actively fishing unless you wanna lose it.   I saw the line start moving but it was too late he rocked me as soon as i grabbed it.

The one on the rod in first pic. Think blue mackerel. Water clear so went kind of natural.

Nice work on some good fish!  I had the same thing happen last year:  plug got fouled, and as I worked to clear the grass from it, a keeper hit it at the surface way behind the boat.

First time I have out fished Capt. Louie, largest fish and most fish.  It did help that he was driving and I was fishing but I don’t really need to mention that.
