Very nice piece of glass!
Well... I am going to shoot a TON of sailfish pictures with my 70-300VR this season (one of the reasons I decided to go with the D7000 was the high fps).
Otherwise, I will shoot with my 35mm 1.8.
But, I think my next purchase will be a Tokina 11-16.

I did and now I'm confused. Am I reading this wrong or is the Tammy actually better?

I dont know much about refurbs, but I thought they came with full warranties.
Now I'm looking at the nikon 70-200 refurb. About $700 savings.

That Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 is an especially sharp and contrasty lens with pro-grade optics that will do superbly on your D90.
The BIM model focuses a little slower than I like. The screwdriver is fast. The new VC version is fairly fast.
