Home Ten Thousand Islands General Fishing & The Outdoors

Sunday....Good Day

Launched @ 7am, water temp 84.6 and a little color in the water with an outgoing tide. With still a good amount of water, went to the beach and threw topwaters. Caught a bunch of jacks in search of snook. After 1-1/2 miles of jacks and a few large blow-ups, went south of Blind Pass. Still on the beach, a few more jacks. Finally, targeted species shows up and hammers the MirroDine Prop bait topwater. Thought the fish was oversize but once in the boat, measured 32-1/2". Whew!  Fished further down towards the bubble houses and more jacks and 1 24"snook. It was a fun morning with topwaters. Into the Morgan River and managed 3 trout between 16 and 17 inches on Yo-Zuri jerkbaits and bucktail jigs thrown by the girlfriend. Back towards the ramp, stopped at a little island to wait out the tide change. Before the outgoing stopped, got another trout @ 17". Tide stopped, bite stopped. Had a drink, a couple puffs on a cigar and the tide switches. We resumed throwing shrimp/popping combo's and caught a couple short mango's, ladyfish, jacks, the obligatory catfish and a mackerel. The GF gets a 17" trout and I got another 17" to complete the 2 limits. It was strange that we did not catch a short trout.
It was a warm day and decent breeze making it tolerable..........except for these 2 jet-ski's which came by at 40 mph. And back across where we were fishing. I counted 10 times, spaced about 4 minutes apart. I understand we were in a "boat lane", but figured they might want to more than 800 yards of that particular shoreline, 10 times! After seeing the recent local news......I'll hold my opinion.
The new Mercury 150 4-stroke ran well as did the new Motorguide trolling motor. It took a bit of getting used to with the remote versus a tiller. I'll be posting my "slightly used" 10 year old 75lb 24v Motorguide on the for sale portion in a few days. It has rust where the motor rubbed on the mount rails but beyond that, runs good. And has a 4-foot tiller handle that requires NO bending over to steer.
See all of you on the water!
