Anybody hear any interesting news coming out of the Redfish Summit on the 24th?

Didn't know there was one, how'd you hear about that?

Received several emails about it from FWC leading up to it. Supposedly was up in Ocala.

That's good we need to take care of those Ocala reddish. Sheesh

they should have held it at and outdoor rest/bar on beach, where they could get the full effects of red tide. Probably more anglers than redfish left at this point.

Yea that’s what I’m afraid of coming out of this summit. If they close Redfish harvest for another two years because of Piney Point I’m skeptical we will ever eat another Redfish again.

This was just the first of meetings to discuss redfish management. They were looking for input on what we felt were the primary issues affecting the redfish populations, both coast, as well as thoughts on how the manage them going forward. There will be follow up meeting around the state to discuss in more detail as well as specifics for the corresponding area.  Check FWC’s site for the dates.

Fix the water quality and lack of sea grass.

Those were the top two items on everyone’s list. The loss of sea grass on the east coast is a huge issue and will take years of restoration unless they can come up with some effective way to replant.

Just an observation,  the seagrass came back in Sarasota bay much faster after red tide  than. I thought it would. Water and  fishing  is good
