Was in the river on Wednesday......carrying about a Jacksonville University researcher so she could collect samples in regards to the algae bloom. And yesterday we checked on the shrimp in Palatka.....they are catching about zero.
Was about to post the same question! I got out today up around cabbage creek near JTB. Fished the incoming and got there at 7am. Water was like root beer…not a nibble for 3 hours!
But finally had some fun with a school of rolling tarpon. Used a top water plug and got 4 hits within 20 minutes. Each time though, after they jumped they shook the hook out. Made a skunky day fun. ive been out only a handful of times over the last few weeks. Pine island down around st. Aug, creeks near Palm valley and it has been hard finding fish. Fished falling & rising. Like today, water clarity has been downright awful…like I said, root beer! Don’t know if it’s all the rain, but it has been a skunk show lately
Fished Friday on SJR near ICW, caught a baby Mangrove Snapper and a small Jack Cravelle on live shrimp. Saturday, no live shrimp, had several hits on artificial but no takers. I’m sure the water is messed up from all of the rain.
I've been out playing around on the river lately just south of the Buckman. I found shrimp (small, med) around 5 per cast, good enough for bait. Been catching: Catfish, Lady Fish, Croaker mostly. Will get the occasional Red and under size Sheep. You can load up on Hybrids if you can find a school. The water is very brackish/fresh and the tide is moving fast. I usually get lots of Mangroves, Reds and Sheeps this time of year..but not lately. I think the fresh water has them up river. If the rain can hold off, things can change in no time.
There use to be a lot more posts on this Forum...I think ppl are posting on Facebook or other apps.
Any reports of shrimp Federal Point area? Just asking
Have a friend who still crabs for a living in that area. While talking to him a few days ago he noted that there were more "hulls" ( Shed shells. ) hung in his traps the last few days but that they were not big enough to bother with except for bait by his standards.
For what that is worth.
And last Friday Louann and checked around City Dock, Palatka. Folks there were catching bait ( small shad ) for trotlines and reported catching all of 3 shrimp.
