Super Slam

23 June  2021...Wabasso/Vero...Blue Ribbon day.  First stop, Hobart Landing, a pair of low slot Trout.  Really active, short Snook, Ladies, U- 2’s  and short Snapper.  Next stop, Grand Harbor,

Mexican Standoff, I won.  Working an area past the Golf Cart Bridge for Tarpon, skip casting back into a culvert.  First shot, a small flash.  Second cast, a black log followed the Baby Vudu Shrimp out.  I stopped the retrieve and let the lure hang about three feet from the side of the boat, Snook fell in line with it.  Seemed like forever, she just looked at it.  Finally, she flared her gills and inhaled it.  Fun starting a fight with three feet of line.  Lots of jumps, rolls and short runs.  When I got her in, the leader was almost chewed through.  Part of the risk with a 20 # leader and 10 # line.  14 inches with an 18 inch girth.  Move to Bethel Creek, Short Snook and Snapper.  Area has been slow, the only reason for coming back is big Snook under the docks.  Back out to the Estuary, water low and clear.  Casting into the shadows, a short Snook.  Finally, a bump, good hook set.  A 22 inch Red, slam complete.  Working the cuts, looking for a small Tarpon.  Saw a pair rolling, worked back to the spot.  Seeing nothing, spotted a couple of small baits on the surface.  Cast the Baby Vudu to the spot, let it drop.  Slow walking it on the bottom, got three bumps and nothing.  Just a slight lift resulted in a solid hit.  Fun time, after several jumps around the boat, landed  a fun size 22 inch Silver Prince.  Perfect hook set in the top lip.  Fourth leg of the slam,  the adventure continues.  Working the Mangroves at Johns Island/Vero, hooked and landed a 3 ‘ Bull Shark.  Longest and hardest fight of the day.  Next came a 17 “ Ugly, had a Shark chasing on one side of the boat and a Dolphin circling on the other side.  Landed 2 more Uglies, no Sheepies today.  Storm clouds building, run for home.  Last stop at Pine Island, 3 short Snook.  All players released for future encounters.  Trout, Red, Snook and Tarpon plus 51 Conservation entries for CCA Tournament.
