Too Big

26  May  2021...Wabasso/Vero...Adventure time...Hobart flat on the way home, throwing a topwater.  Schools of Fry, can hear them pinging on the bottom of the boat.  Long cast up the channel edge, immediate slashing explosion, white water time.  Steady high speed run, electric on high, losing line fast.  Start the outboard, cannot run fast, electric still deployed.  Cannot get enough pressure to break the line, finally end of game, 150 yards of Braid gone.  From the slashing hit and power run, know that it was a big Shark.

Not quite as bad, working the Mangroves at Johns Island/Vero another lesser adventure.  Skipping the Baby Vudu Shrimp back into the Mangroves, spooked a 3 foot Black Tip.  Favorite spot, 3 Sheepshead up chewing on the roots.  Good cast, hooked up.  Almost to the boat, a shadow appeared, thinking a Shark.  Wrong guess, an oversized Sailcat trying to eat the Sheepie.  Kept banging away all the way to the boat.

For the lesser of the evils, Grand Harbor past the Golf Cart Bridge.  Working the Oyster bar looking for big Snapper.  Light hit, jumping, definitely not a Snapper.  Swing it into the boat and check it out.  Snook, but the wrong kind.  Turned out to be a Swordspine Snook.  Does not count as a Snook in the log that I keep.  Think that it put a pox on Snook for the rest of the day.  Only managed 2 more all day.

Day started good, Hobart Landing, 16 inch Trout, only one for the day.  Flat active with Dancing Ladies, U - 2 ‘ s, Snapper and Kittys ( 5 Hardheads and one Sailcat ).  Heading South, tried a spoil island, nothing.  Grand Harbor, easy getting under the golf cart bridge.  First fish, a fair sized Croaker, followed by a Swordspine Snook, a few Snapper, U - 2 ‘s, another Snook.  Baby Tarpon threw the hook.  Onward to Bethel Creek, again with the wind and tide, had to work the docks in reverse order.  Best dock, nothing on the first set of casts.  Long skip cast under the dock. Light bump and a heavyweight fighting, thinking a big Sheepie. Wrong as usual, turned out to be a 19 inch Ugly.  Worked down the line, Snapper and a barely legal Sheepie with a few that followed, but did not hit.  Johns Island/Vero, Sheepshead active both under the docks and in the Mangroves, no big ones.  Saw 2 schools of little Uglies, did not try for them.  Stop at Oyster Cut on the way back home, nothing but small Snapper.  After the Shark fiasco at the Hobart Flat, regrouped and worked the Pine Island edge. Real skinny and super clear.  One short Snook and a few Snapper in the cuts.  Big Red in the Algae mat.  Did my usual, dropped the Baby Vudu Shrimp on her head, bad habit, can not get away from hitting what I am looking at.  All players released for future encounters.2
