Mild Case Of The Uglies

17 May  2021...Wabasso/Vero..Mild case of the Uglies.  First stop, Hobart Landing.  Baby Lady, a U - 2 And a few small Snapper.  Then out on the open flat, throwing a top water, a couple of small wakes then, fun time. 25 inch Lady.  Lots of jumps, and took about 50 yards of line.  Fought way harder than the 2 Tarpon later in the day.  Next stop Grand Harbor, water looked real bad and not the usual herds of Mullet. 2 overgrown Jacks and a pair of Short Snook.  Bethel Creek, a little slow, reversed the normal sequence of docks.  Best dock nothing, same story for most of the other docks.  Saw a pair of Snook under one dock, but no action.  Managed a pair of legal Snapper,  a 16 inch Sheepshead and a pair of short Snook.  Had a big Snook swim up and bump the Baby Vudu, did not ger a hook set.  Saw another big Snook easing along next to a wall, would not play.  Back around to the Estuary, working the Mangrove edges, soft bump, short run, several jumps and a good shower,  Got the Silver Prince to the boat and got the hook out.  Short time later, pitching the Mangroves, soft bump, screaming run down the row.  Rod tip buried in the mud, kept clear of the roots and branches, but could not stop a jump, pulled hook.  Johns Island/Vero, Working the Mangroves, 4 foot Shark, take a shot, follows the Baby Vudu down, but does not hit.  Skp cast to a deep pocket, solid hit, pulled the hook.  Next pocket, solid hook up, 18 inch Ugly, next pocket a 19 inch Ugly.  Not the Trout or Sheepshead that I was looking for.  Played with a couple of sheepshead under the docks.  5 foot Shark crossing the sand bar,  good cast, short follow, but no hit.  Oyster Cut another Sheepshead, no Reds.  Head for home work the Pine Island shore, clean water.  Work the shaded pockets, several legal Snapper a a pair of Snook in the 29 inch range.  Another day of working the Baby Vudu Shrimp.  7 Snook, 5 Sheepshead, 2 Uglies and a mess of legal Snapper.  All players released for another day.
