CK Friday, macks are here.

Went out Friday too avoid arts festival BS, it also turned out to be the perfect weather window. Slightly overcast, slight breeze.

Spanish were thick on Seahorse, trolled jigs outdid spoons, (as seems to be usual for us), fish were good size for spring, no real big ones but plenty over 20" at the fork. Got about 10 before slack low tide and had to wait about an hour for them to turn back on. Oddly saw no schools of bait, and no kings. A few ladyfish and blue runners were caught too.

Left them biting around 2:30, ended up with 21 fish, we could have stayed out and caught plenty more but that was more than enough.

I don't fish hard plastics for them, trebles are a total PITA with thrashing macks and unnecessary. Come to think of it I don't fish hard plastics much at all...or trebles.

But if that's your thing, they'd probably work.

i tried clark spoons and macks didn't even notice them.  Same with Gotcha lures.  Jig Head and white fluke soft plastic was what they wanted, but the tear them apart so quickly..

Sometimes Clark spoons can be deadly, other times, like you said, they seem to go unnoticed. Never used a Gotcha, largely because the treble hook thing and they look like they'd spin if trolled. Bullet headed bucktail jigs in bright colors are our go-tos. Around here they call them Floreo jigs, I think Floreo was a brand at one point but is no more. The hair and mylar does get shredded eventually but lasts longer than a soft plastic.

They're generally fairly cheap, and if you tie good knots and use a wire trace you can get through the day only using 2 or 3 if the bite is hot.

I used to have the first article in a FS magazine about the McDonalds soda straw rig for barracuda way back in the 80s.    I wish i still had those old magazines.   tons of good info.
