North Sarasota Bay by Kayak, 4/18

I never know whether to post here or in the SW section for Sarasota Bay, but given that this was solidly in the northern portion here we are!

Fun if slightly slow morning on the yak. Struck out on reds at a usually decent high tide spot, but saw some tarpon rolling in the canals. No bites from them either. Fished the grassflats in 2-4" (both drifting and staked out) and got plenty of trout to 18", plus two bonnetheads including my PB (maybe 15 lbs? unsure). Very fun fight on 3000-size spin gear, plus some cool video.

Ended the day fishing some mangroves after the tide rose some more, caught some more trout and snook to 27".  Everything caught on mangroves and grassflats with Lil Johns/Slam Shadys on 1/8 jighead, or live shrimp under a cork. Haven't fished this area of the bay too much, but there seem to be vast stretches of fishy water worth a look in the future.
Paddle faster, I hear banjo music.
