Suzuki 140 water problem

LimeyLimey Posts: 572 Officer
Well after to months I finally got around to starting up the outboard. I started it on the muffs no water coming from the pee hole.  I shut off the motor and hooked the hose to the motor flush still nothing from the per hole. Could there be a blockage someplace and where is the best place to start. The motor was in the shop for a full service in October so I don’t think it’s the water pump.

Try piece of wire in outlet pee hole,if no water remove cowling trace tube back take it apart usually a twist fitting check for water flow at that point.doesn’t take much to plug em up.

A friend had DF115 clogged and a wire up the pee hole did not work. I removed the plug from the flush port, removed the outside pee hole tube. Used a small fitting on a water hose and sprayed water up the pee hole tube. Unclogged whatever was clogged and solved the problem.

On a Suzuki you can take the end cap off. I’ve had the side cowling off and there is no hose just the lower unit. When I ran it there was water coming out the prop exhaust. I tried a weed eater string that only go’s in about 4” then stops.

On my Zuki i first try 100 lb test mono. Then i try 80 lb mono. if they don;t clear the problem i use air pressure from a compressor which has always worked.

i had to use short 150 psi bursts of air pressure to clear my Zuk pee hole. So up the pressure and do it when when the engine is dry and wet.

That’s  my next move up the pressure try to get a better seal and blast away. 18Egret. There’s no water when hooked up to the flush port. The mechanic at the boat place said to have the water hooked up to the flush port and short burst of air.

Not a Suzuki, but I had a similar problem after running my 50 hp Tohatsu on the Dustbuster thru the mud and sand bars on the lower Colorado River, way south of Blythe.  As stated above, start working your way back, disassembling and poking and prodding.

What I've found works best of all for declogging (but hard on plastic/rubber tubing) is a length of old speedometer cable.  (remember those ??)  Chuck an appropriate length in a drill and "gently" start it in. That cable will even grind away mineral deposits.

After the water pump gets a little age on it, oftentimes it has difficulty pumping up to the pea hole on a hose, but will work ok if the lower unit is in the water. having said that,  it's probably time to change the water pump when that happens. I usually change the pump every 2 years, but I will usually put about 300 hours a year on the engine

New water pump in September 2020. Has been working fine. I was starting the motor before going out and didn’t see anything from the tell tail so that’s when I hooked to the flush port and still nothing

This won't help now but when I have my boat outdoors for a few days, I put a piece of tape over the peel hole. It seems that mud daubers like to nest in them.

It’s some kind of blockage. When you hook a hose to the flush port with out engine running water should come out the per hole. I’ve bought a new air blower with a rubber gasket. Should get better air blowing back down the hole. I will also try upping the pressure.

Whoop whoop all fixed. 100psi a good air nozzle with a rubber tip. First couple shots of air it kept blowing back then pop and you could hear the air going around the motor. I hooked up the hose and left of the pee hole plug for a while. The first bit of water very cloudy then cleared.

When you finally get back on the water make a point of running that motor wide open for a minute or two to bring water pressure up to the max and that should finish the job you’ve started...
