Off Palm Beach no deeper than 200’. Keys reef/wrecks Atlantic/Gulf sides no deeper than 200’. Just basic spinner rods, Penn Fierce III with 8000 reel. Never Jig fished before so wanted to try it with what I have before investing in a more appropriate setup for it.

Shallower than 150ft, it has not been productive for me. 180 and deeper is where vertical jigging has been the most productive. The exception is murky water, in dirty water I have had success in as little as 70ft of water.
Butterfly jigs have become quite popular but I still prefer lead bullet head jigs with a strip. You're farther south than me ( Cape Canaveral ) black grouper along with big muttons should be a pretty good target for you. I prefer mono over braid for jigging but that's another story. All on jigs. Top one was in 180'. 12oz. on 60lb mono. Couldn't find my Red Snapper shots on jigs. I love jigs... as you can tell.
