Been a long time due to weather and closing of grouper among "other" things since fishing the gulf.
JTS (John) was wanting to run his boat so we picked yesterday. Good choice !

Was chilly heading out at 8am but calm enough , so we ran to a rock in 53'. And , someone was fishing it...
Ran 7 miles farther and set the hook on a good looking spot. I tried a new hogfish rig I dreamed up that has a small pink float above the bait as an attractor ? Well , it worked but no hogs at first. Grunts , small grouper and a big flounder came to it.
It needs a little tweaking but shows promise.
Box was steadily filling with more BIG grunts and another flounder and mangrove snapper.

Made a couple of moves there with about 5 hogfish caught (all short) and more grunts. Left for another stop in 36' and small snapper , and hogs etc. there. Water was 63 all day incoming tide all morning and swapped out about 2:30 . Shrimp was the main bait. Seen a couple of decent bait schools deep so that's encouraging. Water was super clear. Could see bottom in 35'.
Thanks to JTS for the ride !

love the big grunts and flounder bonus
Isn't it just crazy that you can go some 20+ miles offshore and someone is fishing a spot you intended to fish!
Show's you that there are no secrets out there....
