15 Feb 2021...Wabasso/Johns Island...Started the day at Hobart Landing, first fish to the boat, a U - 2. Resident fishing off of the North point. Long casting with fish chasing bait right at his feet. Got to a position where I would not interfere with him. Good cast with a hookup, rolled up to the surface. He yelled that it was a Jack. Wrong, a 17 inch Trout. Worked a section of the channel edge, few bumps and nothing. Moved to work another edge with the wind and tide in my favor, a few short Ladies. Took a shot at North Sister, nothing. Long run to Grand Harbor, big Pathie in the channel, eased by. Back past the Golf Cart Bridge, short Snapper and a 3 pound Jack. Starting to look good, I saw 3 big Snook cruising, none in the mood. Barely made it back out. Worked the channel. A barely legal Trout, short Snook and several short Snapper. Next stop, the Estuary. Another 3 pound Jack. Took a shot at the cuts. Spotted 3 Tarpon in one of the cuts. One bump and no hookups. Johns Island/Vero, favorite Sheepshead hole. First cast, bump and run, missed it. Back in position, solid hit, another 3 pound Jack. A few minutes later, get set again, this time a Trout just under 4 pounds. Working the Mangrove edges and sand, hooked into a big Snook, one jump and gone. Tried one of the islands. Skip cast to the Mangrove pockets. Several bumps. Finally pulled a 20 inch Red out of a pocket. Wind starting to get a little too strong. Head for home, with a stop at Hobart. Rolling water, wind and tide together. Broke out the bait caster with a big Chug Bug. First cast, a 2 pound Lady, loads of fun with the wind. Made a total of 3 drifts, Cats up to 4 pounds and more big Ladies. Got a little shook. On one of the drifts, a Ray got some serious hang time. Have seen it in videos, never live.. Looked like an alien craft taking off. All players released for future encounters.
