Yes and no... You're a fast learner. The 18' Egret was designed around a mid 90's 2 stroke Johnson 150/175. Which weight 389 lbs. That's why you have a 56 gal. fuel tank. The boat doesn't squat.
I'm happy with a Suzuki DF-140. It weights 407 lbs. The boat loaded full tank of fuel, full bait well, rods and cooler with ice and drinks 1 person 46 mph with a 3 blade prop. Good luck... Pete
My first 189 had a 473lb (I think) Merc 175. Seemed fine to me. I do understand overloading the stern. I've had bass boats. I am just ordering a new boat. After attempting to take into account of everything (including $) I just agreed with Frank to put a 150 Pro XS on it - 455lbs. I guess we'll see.

So you are going with a heavier motor then you previously had on a 189 and were happy with it... seems like you answered your question. No reason to consider dropping to a 90 hp

Well maybe... Just move 131lbs. from the transom permanently to the bow.
