MK Riptide acting funny in spot lock

JPinPVBJPinPVB Posts: 54 Deckhand
Anyone with a MK Riptide trolling motor out there having this same issue?
while in spot lock, after a while running the speed increases to max and head spins around full circle.  She then turns off.   I can immediately re-engage the motor and reset the gps lock, but it happens again.  Almost like I need to wait 20 min for unit to “cool down”.
this is happening in a breeze of ~ 10 kts...not a strong wind and also in current. Bringing her in to be checked this week.

thanks everyone.

Your tech will sort it out... If you're lucky it's a random problem.  If it were my motor I'd suspect some water intrusion into the motherboard area (and that wouldn't be good news at all...).  Every now and then my Terrova will go "walkabout" and the only fix is to turn it off and re-start.  Usually for us it's when we're up under a bridge and the internal gps on the motor loses sky contact (every gps needs to be able to see the sky or it won't work properly... ).

Post up what you find out - and the fix if there is one.  My motor is in commercial service and I've only had it on the skiff for less than 18 months now (so far trouble free - except for a few mis-adventures I caused myself...).
