I've caught them offshore, ran across schools while grouper fishing. Kind of fun at first, gets old fast.
I don't understand the secrecy, it's just a big old drum, nothing you can do with it. Or would want to.
This was caught inshore by the nephew of a friend. It's his spot, not mine to divulge. I don't eat redfish of any size but fish for them for sport. The same for snook.
Heck of a fight... Even if he was legal I'd turn him loose. Not very good to eat at that size but a Heck of a fish. Give me a 33 inchers and Fish Chowder any day. Trout are good for frying...Redfish not so much.
if you dont care, why r you on a fishing forum? Impressive catch. BTW bottom fishing is boring! Id take a red that size anytime!
Just to clarify, it's a hell of a catch on light tackle but the whole "top secret" rubbish is just goofy to me. I get it if you're guarding a specific offshore number or little rockpile you found all on your own and want to keep to yourself....for as long as that will last.
And it is just a big drum, even if legal no one would keep it so really, it's not that big of a deal. To me at least. I'm in it for the delicious food, if it bores you to haul in tasty fillets one after the other then we are obviously not on the same page, which is fine.

I can go catch slot size reds all day just about every day in the big bend. Nothing special. What I can’t do regularly is catch a hog like that up shallow. And it does bore me to “haul in tasty fillets one after the other” that I can’t keep. Get the sand out your panties.

JMO, slot size reds ain't fit to eat, back in the day (before blackened craze) anything over 3 lbs was crabbait.
I am glad to only be a bird hunter with bird dogs...being a shooter or dog handler or whatever other niche exists to separate appears to generate far too much about which to worry.
Anumber1 apparently you have never had properly cooked redfish court bouillon
I'd still use a <2lb fish.
