Mexico Beach weekend snapper report - lots of pics

FamilyfisherFamilyfisher Posts: 3,235 Captain
First for me last Friday.....got to fish from a 39 foot Yellowfin thanks to Jacob's brother-in-law,  Andy Poe!  Wonderful day on the water.  Got our 10 snapper limit pretty quickly.  It was slick too!

Saturday's forecast was for seas of a foot or less.  Not sure where that was supposed to be cause it was solid 3-4 footers out of Mexico Beach.  We got the snot beat out of us . Jacob decided to sit on the beanbag on the way out and that may have been his undoing.   He was sick a few times throughout the day.   The plan was to run 86-120 miles.  We pulled up at 65 miles and trolled for wahoo for a few hours with no joy.  We then beat our way back 35-ish miles to a snapper spot.  A REALLY GOOD snapper spot!  That's the largest snapper I've ever seen alive, much less caught.  I was told it was 25+ pounds.   2 unforgettable days of fishing! This was the first time I've been offshore since we left the house in Carrabelle in September of 2015.

Good to see you get out Brad. Nice boat and a nice catch.

Also good to see Mex Beach operational again. Looks like a lot of new construction in the background.

There IS a lot of construction taking place for sure.  Coming back in after dark on Saturday,  it was eerie to see the lights at PSJ to the right and the glow from Tyndall to the left with a gaping expanse of darkness that used to be lit up in Mexico Beach.

    Good deal Brad!

Thanks for a great report and pics.
That certainly is a big snapper and a healthy looking limit, the freezer will be full.
Its also good to see you looking well Brad and getting some fishing in, 5 years is a long time between offshore trips.
Jacob looks capable of doing the heavy lifting, so that helps. :)

That sentence caused my eyes to go a bit damp, what a poignant sight. We love Mexico Beach and the devastation there was heartbreaking.
