Friend posted this on anther board, last nights news on the West Coast..

Empty kayak found near Everglade's city, kayak found adrift by park ranger... its clear form the photo someone was actively fishing.
Hope its no-one we all know...

It doesn't look like he rolled it and the front hatch cover is missing. So who leaves their rods in their kayak?  Paddle looks like it was left while he went wading.  He's got a third rod holder he could have been using another rod. Why didn't he use the rope?  I can't quite make out what's in the seat area?  his seat??!  PFD?
A Float Plan and an ID would go a long way to solving.  Hope he's OK.

A buddy of mine from over there said there was an update, but no link to any news story.

Apparently, fortunately, the person was found on land, assume one of the islands, the kayak had drifted away from where it was beached.. don't know if the person was wading, walking the shore line, or just taking a break, whizz.. but they are safe.

Wow, that's twice in a row, the media was quick to report a lost kayaker due to a kayak that was improperly secured.

Slow news day... but when you find an empty kayak that is loaded with equipment and looks like it should have a person in it, ya gotta think the worst...

Tides can be fast in the 10k. Years ago I pulled my kayak more than halfway out of the water at the launch at the end of the day, walked 50 yards to my retrieve my truck, and found my kayak drifting when I got back. Anchor out when I get out is my rule.

Glad he is ok.  Sounds like a bathroom break gone wrong.
