Kayaker Missing - 20 Nov 2020

https://wsvn.com/news/local/crews-searching-for-kayaker-reportedly-in-distress-in-north-miami-beach/

With all the wind, I wonder if the kayak and paddle were blown off somebody's dock?   Always a good idea to have your name and contact information securely posted in a weather protected area of the kayak.   That way the news doe not report as a "man" is missing?  Maybe they know who it is and are just withholding that information?

I fill out a Float Plan, take a picture of it to text to someone, and leave the FP on the dashboard of my truck.  Someone then would know what the heck is going on.
I've also got a Coast Guard ID sticker under the front hatch.

I think LEO knows who it is and has changed the search to recovery...  rather than search and rescue.

But JM you could be right for sure.

I also have the ID sticker that was handed out by a USCG inspector during an Extreme Kayak Fishing Tournament.  That sticker is hard to write on, so I also have P-Touch labels(less likely to fade with time).  Leaving a float plan behind is an excellent safety practice.  I always take three means of contacting outside help: A waterproof Cell phone, VHF radio, and a Personal Locating Beacon on my Life Jacket.  Even though most of my fishing is during daylight hours, I keep an LED flare in the kayak.
