Took my in-law out on a Saturday due to weather forecast next week. ONLY reason for Saturday.. Ramp was nuts at 2.30.
Made a bumpy run in the fog and dropped plugs to take a break. Looked down and see a weird large red spike coming up from the bottom ? Caught me off guard as I've never seen anything like it in that area? Said something about it ( didn't mark it..) and he says "your rod " ! Nice hit and wrestle in an 11 lb gag. Crap , I SHOULD HAVE MARKED IT..
Turned around and hooked up on a dink . Kept looking but no deal, decent bottom but could not find it again.
Mac attack there but got lucky and found plug floating. Headed on.
Hit a good number and got a good bite , twitched other rod and doubled up. We had both keepers coming good and at same time they dove and rocked up in the same spot ? They had to be no more than 4' apart. Got one plug back and lost other. Rats..
Few more passes there and big hit and snap. Rocked again , lost plug. I put NEW line on yesterday. 3 plugs gone now.
Then... Mac attack . Hitting the swivel. Tied leader with no swivel , mac's still hit line above leader ? WTH..
7 plugs total , all but 2 were fresh out of the box..
Anyway made a move and finished 4 fish limit by 1 pm. Should have been done by 9:30.
Total weight 40lbs. [email protected] , 1 @11 And one @ 9 on BOGA. Sever that were lost were way bigger but I'm happy.
Not about the $$ in plug replacement though. Water was silty and 73 degrees.

If you use a swivel, keep it small and black. Trim the knots so that there are no tag ends to flutter. A drop of glue and a black sharpie will cut the chances of getting cut off way down.
Butch doesn't trim his leader knots and gets cut off a lot. I trim my knots and hardly ever get cut off at the leader junction.
