..results of a couple of recent fishing trips.
MIA BCH 30 OCT
Because we had a fill moon, we decided on taking a long shot and did some high speed trolling from Haulover down to Triumph Reef for wahoo. While we didn’t have a wall to zigzag over like in the Bahamas, we did nonetheless work 125’ out to 300’ all the way down to Triumph at 12 mph. We fished two 50 wides and one Tanacom 1000. We pulled a cowbell in red /black, Hawaiian Eye in purple and black, and a Yo-Zuri bonita. Had no hits despiite our all out effort. In the past we usually could count on a t least one good hit…but this time nada. Maybe we’ll try the wahoo again on the full moon in Nov. Actually another strike against us was the muddy colored water untill we got down to Fowey. When we arrived at Triumph we did some live baiting with pilchards on top, middle, and botom from 140’-80’. Would up with 4 cero macs, 1 king, 2 small sharks, and 2 released muttons that measured 17 7/8" and 17 3/4"…no lie….less than one inch in total caused us to release two muttons.
MIA BCH 1 NOV
Knowing we wanted to be back early to watch Tua’s [not tuna] deput...and the fact that the seas were kicking up pretty sporty…we fished the finger channels south of Stiltsvile for just a few hours. We anchored in a couple of channels and used both frozen ground and live pilchards to chum. Fished lite 10# spinners. Got a release on a juvenille African Pompano, 2 yellowtails, and a keeper mutton. Fished the bayside of the channels next for a litttle while but didn’t catch any mackerel..as a matter of fact they were conspicuously absent. Not a lot of action …but we enjoyed the brief outing and being back for the game.
