I am glad to only be a bird hunter with bird dogs...being a shooter or dog handler or whatever other niche exists to separate appears to generate far too much about which to worry.

Do you think having a parlor in the trap makes a difference?
Absolutely.

I recently moved to Homosassa Springs, and last Friday I went to Ed's Tackle Shop (983 N Suncoast Blvd, Crystal River, FL 34429) and purchased 2 half traps. Put them both off my seawall and got a fair haul after a couple days. The traps at Ed's are high quality and I paid $40 each for them. No way would I want 5 traps. I can't eat that much, the two I have are plenty productive. I did find that they are more productive if you empty them frequently. I found that after 4-6 hours, no additional crab went into the trap. But this is just my very limited experience. I've only been a recreational crabber for 5 days.
I appreciate the feedback. I am planning to run five. Whatever I don't eat right away, I'll simply flesh out and save the meat. Makes for great lunches.
Half size traps are the way to go for the recreational crabber IMO. Takes up a lot less space in the boat and just easier to deal with. I normally dump my 5 traps in the am out the way out and pick them up on the way back in after a day offshore and do pretty well. I think the last time I purchased new ones I actually got them at West Marine in C River. Would call before but if you can get them from local shop like Ed's that is even better. $40 sounds about right.
Nice to recycle left over bait, grunt or seabass heads for the traps the next trip.
