Other people may catch these often but it took me 15 years to catch another one onshore. I know they are 100 miles offshore in deep water and under oil platforms, but I caught this one off of Cedar Keys pier. Caught them in the Atlantic ocean off piers several times but only a couple of times in the gulf. The fish is a Spade Fish, a small one 11 to 12 inches but it put up a good fight for its size..

They're all over the CK steel tower too.
I kept one once, cleaned it but didn't get as far as eating it. The meat was a strange bluish gray tint. Even more bluish gray than kingfish meat.
I had some chowder once made from spades, it weren't bad but nothing to bring home..
I like when I pull up on a spot with a bunch of them and people on the boat will say "look! Sheepshead!"
