Impromtu Tuna Trip

Went out last weekend to the otherside.  Heard the tuna were biting and seas were calm so figured we would run out and give it shot.  No big ones but caught a bunch and had a blast. Posted a video if anyone wants to see what we were using and conditions.

Nice! what would you guess your success rate is finding yellowfin out there?

Back when we had an offshore boat we tried it a handful of times and got into the birds but caught nothing but skipjacks

This is my first year doing it and I have honestly only did bad 1 time and that was my first trip.  It was blowing from the north and we should have never went.  But we did catch 1 blackfin. lol   All of the other times we have done great, biggest one was around 80 lbs.  You do have to get threw all of the skippys but pulling different baits helps a lot.   Its actually now my favorite type of fishing.

Congrats and thanks for posting. The last trip I made, the blackfin and YFT were scarce but the skippies were plentiful. It's nice to hear we should keep trying.

Yeah they were out there for sure.  Still lots of skippys because we switched to blackfin lures during mid day when it was slower.  The yellowfin seem to bite better on the bigger lures for sure.

Yeah people were posting they were out there, and I seen some people had some decent sizes too.  The packs we were on only held smaller ones.  Barely legal.
