Fishing
was slow as it was the wrong tide for fishing, so rather than waiting
for a better tide, we went bugging instead. As luck would have it, we
found Grouper on the first two spots we visited. Couldn't ask for better
weather! Did have a surprise visit from a nice Cuda on 12# gear, so we'll have plenty of bait for tomorrow
In my many years, I have come to a conclusion that one useless man is a shame, two is a law firm, and three or more is a congress.-- John Adams
Just curious how do you cook the cuda? I have always been told not to eat them bc of Ciguatera? Any truth to this?
Thanks!
I've had people say that it depends on the fish. If its lethargic or sickly use as bait. If its healthy and fights good the chances are better that its ok. I still wont eat one of those stinky faquers. To each their own.
Local capt in the Bahamas said the Cuda is the first fish he sells to locals... but he won't eat em.. heard the small ones are ok but I havn't tried it

Might it be because its the cheapest? The rest go to restaurants for more money?
@L8RBRA, could be but made it sound like they wanted the cuda's over the groupers and snappers... we were both surprised by it... heard the small ones can be good tho
If the Bahamians are paying for a whole fish by the pound I think they
would get more editable filet off a whole barracuda versus a
whole grouper. I often weight the carcass of a fish after I filet it and most heavily bodied fish like
grouper only yield about half their total weigh in filet, and this includes the
belly and throat.. Long slimmer fish like barracuda and mackerel seem to yield
more editable filet from the total weight of the fish. The weight of the skin
also plays into this ratio of filet vs the carcass..
