Me/Mom/Dad went yesterday, started off running the beach in flat calm conditions. No bait pods and didn't see much of anything, but we stopped to drift a lively looking area with some sargassum mats about 15 miles south of the inlet in about 40'. A little cobia came right up to the boat and ate about 10 feet from my rod tip. At 28" we sent him on his way but still a fun start.
Worked our way back up to the inlet and saw enormous schools of mullet making their way along the jetty on their way south. A few tarpon were crashing them and we threw into the mix, but nothing found our baits among the thousands of others. Once we anchored up and settled in, action was great for the rest of the afternoon with 6 redfish from 25-31", a little permit and 1 for 2 on tarpon.
Cobia/Permit/Tarpon/Redfish all in one day was certainly a first for me and probably one of our better days ever. Seems like the mullet run is getting started so hopefully we're in for a couple months of great fishing before the first few cold fronts.
