We are flying in from PA and staying one night in Florida City before heading to the keys. My 14 yr old really would like to catch a peacock bass. Is there an easy "go to" spot anywhere in that area to take a few casts and maybe get one?
On the way down to the keys stop at C111 (Aerojet canal) . Exit is on your left as you cross bridge over canal. Fish around boat ramp and work back toward bridge. If the tackle shop on your right just after you exit TP on US 1 has live shiners throw them free lined on a #4 circle hook and 12lb fflouro carbon leader. Rapalas work but do your kid a favor and pick up a dozen shiners. The canal has lots of peas some up to 4 lbs. pm me if you have any other questions.
good spots mentioned. There's also the c100 canal behind the falls shopping center if you have a small boat theres a little beat up boat ramp you can launch, fish the bridges and lakes. Use live bait if you can get it.
West of the Airport, right off the Turnpike is a Bass Pro Shop. That area has several canals that run together. There are several Peacocks in that water. Small shiny lure worked faster than you think you should will get hits. They often hang out under the shadow of the bridges. Hope you kid catches some. Post photos so he can brag
