Kayaking downtown Tampa?

When I visit the River Walk in Tampa, I see small boats quietly motoring in the waterway alongside the River Walk.

Is this waterway accessible with a kayak........a place to launch from?

Is this a good idea?  Any reason to not kayak in the waterways?  Seems like it would be a fun place to kayak, but I have not seen any kayaks whenever i have been there.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Don't know of kayak launch spots, but my sister lives on that river a few miles up from downtown.. where she lives its pretty wide and boats run thru there, not at idle, sometimes pulling water skiers, she's across from a big park. They have a dock with dual boat lifts. My nephews who are older now have always caught some good fish in that river, many tarpon and snook. You see dolphins and manatee swim by all the time as well right from her dock..

If I loved up there I'd have a kayak and paddle that river with no concerns, except inconsiderate boaters, and ffish the bridges and dock lights.
