Naples to sanibel... where to stay ?? Help me out

How’s it going ladies and gents... I’m thinking of planning a little weekend get away end of July and was thinking of heading to any where on the south west coast... I’ve visited some relatives in ft Myers a couple times but have never been out to the water. I have a boat but I’m thinking of leaving it behind and heading that way in hopes to find some nice beaches an mayb rent a boat for one day to check out any nice sandbars or islands and maybe a little fishing...
I’m thinking anywhere between naples and sanibel So I guess my question is what do you guys recommend?Places to stay?  boat rentals ? Where and what would you guys recommend??

I am not a high end guy and both naples and sanibel are in that realm.  Lived in Naples for many years, family still there.  Not my cup of tea personally.

We have spent a lot of time on Fort Myers Beach.  Typical beach town.  Touristy stuff.  Hotels from very cheap to very expensive.  Decent restaurants and bars etc...

That is probably where I would go in that geography.  Not super familiar with the fishing or boat rental opportunities since I haven't been there for a while.

Diamondhead was nice, probably a little expensive.

On the southern end is where we normally stayed.  The neptune we liked.  Had some nice apartment style rooms on the beach.  There is a nice park just a couple miles south of there on.  Lover's key.

I’d take my boat and stay at the Tarpon Lodge on Pine Island.  Explore P.I. Sound, Cayo Costa, hit Cabbage, Barnacle Phil’s, Tweenwaters, maybe even ride up to Boca Grande.

I’m biased, we do this as much as time and $$ allows.

I would suggest the Outrigger resort on Fort Myers Beach. It is directly on the widest part of the beach, has a Tiki bar with live music poolside most days and within walking distance to other bars and restaurants. don't think you can go wrong with this choice.

Biased, nah. That's a fantastic plan you suggested. The OP would be wise to listen to you.

Look on vrbo.com or floridarentals.com  Lots of waterfront houses still available and at a great price.  Monroe Canal Marina has boat rentals.
