Dumb idea?

My friend has a 12 foot jon boat with a 9.9 motor. We plan to launch from chokoloskee and fish the outer edge of the mangroves. How are the waves out there? Ive been there a couple of times recently with my canoe but never made it that far and only caught a small blacktip on squid.

Small car-topper type skiffs are perfect for working shorelines in sheltered bays as long you pick your days and are a bit cautious... That’s how many of us got our start fishing the backcountry.  Just make sure you have your safety gear and a small anchor (in case...).

I always carry safety stuff while on a boat, I was the first mate on my dads dive boat for a couple months so I have and know how to use all of the safety gear. My friend has a garmin so we dont get lost, and i carry a compass. We always use the kill cord and life vests while running.
