My bride was decent when we got married and became excellent. Now she considers cooking to be a PIA and has taken to using shortcuts on some items. After darn near 41;years of it, I really can’t blame her.

That's a lot of cooking I don't blame her for taking it easy.

Finally something we can agree on, our experiment in democracy is dead.
We are not and never have been a democracy. And pray we never become one.

Our elected leaders never learned that in this state. They seriously want to give our vote to any city they think knows better than our state,

    "Beware the military industrial complex"...

That was the start of WW3, and we have been involved in some conflict every day since.    Both parties are to blame.  The war industry is so far intertwined in our economy that this will never end, until our currency collapses.

Our  Constitution is based on democratic ideals.

The Constitution of Iran is based on Islam.

    Both of us are republics.

We are a Representative Republic. The founders feared a true democracy and for good reasons.
And comparing our Republic to others is ludicrous.
LOL … definition of republic refers specifically to a form of government in which elected individuals represent the citizen body  ...

The US is a federated republic of sovereign states.

I'm not sure why you would think comparing our republic to others in order to show differences is 'ludicrous'.

My point in doing so was to demonstrate that even though we are not a democracy our constitution is based on democratic ideals. Not on socialist or Islamic or Communist ideals.  Comparing our republic to those shows how a constitution based on democratic ideals is superior.

Democracy is not a bad word. Unless equality under the law is not something you admire.

Under a true democracy the majority rules. And there is no individualism or self reliance.

And an inherent problem with majority rule is that, the more complex a problem gets, the fewer will know the correct answer.
There will never be a really free and enlightened state until the state comes to recognize the individual as a higher and independent power, from which all its own power and authority are derived.

The United States, at the federal level was intended to represent the states and not the individual people. Governing of the people was primarily reserved for the individual states.

The representation at federal level was created to insure each state had representation in the process of how the federal government worked and that a few highly populated states could not band together and control the entire country.

That's why we have a constitution and a Bill of Rights.

Democracy = rule by the people

not sure why so many seem to hate democracy … must be the equality under the law thing.

There is no true democracy in the world.  I don't know why we would even be discussing it.

To be fair, not one of us is going to cure The Covid either, yet there are 197 pages devoted to it.

    Which will happen first?
    A. China calls out the PLA on the protestors in Hong Kong ala Tiananmen Square.
    B. China starts a shooting war with India ( they are moving kinetic assets within striking range of Indian forces)
    C. They retaliate against our crackdown on entry for "students" with a S China sea expansion
    D. After all of the above they attack Taiwan.

They have already attacked Western Democracies with a Bio Weapon IMO
    Fentanyl was a weapon also.

Because people are stupid and think we should have it here.  Better to not confuse them.
