Fishing report - Cape Romano

Went out to Cape Romano to fish the beaches and caught a beautiful snook on a 4” paddle tail on a 3/16 oz jig head. This thing was a beast. If I hooked it in the back country I don’t think that I would have landed it with the tackle that I was using. As I was fighting it a second large snook was shadowing the one that I hooked. Pretty cool and a great way to spend the morning. The waves were flat when I left Calusa marina at about 8am but picked up pretty rough by the time I headed in around 10 or so.

Great report... that "something following a hooked fish routine" happens often enough that I frequently have a second angler all primed and ready to toss something at whatever's following a snook or redfish or cobia that's hooked up solid...

Were you able to sight the fish or were you blind casting?.  Water looks pretty clear. Nice fish.

The water was clear as you noticed. Since it was so clear I stayed as far from the trough as I could and made long blind casts as the breeze moved me down the shoreline. I love that kind of fishing.

I'd stay out front till October if I was you.
Bait will be there soon and the Sows will be fattening up for Spawn.
A fresh dead bait in that Trough would catch everything in it.
Set the anchor and chunk out the FRESH Dead.

Thanks TRT. I’m having so much fun tossing artificials that I haven’t used bait yet. I catch my share of lady fish so one day I’ll take your advice.
