What are the best lures for the summer time?

Amateur Angler here. I’m fairly new to the sport and I want to see what some good lures are for the summer/fall time. I’m in the southeast (USA) , specifically Georgia, and just want to know what my best options are.

I also just want to learn everything I really need to know. Things like how to fish certain lures, what Rod/Reel is the “best”, what a freakin Texas Rig is, how weather conditions = type of lure, anything that’ll help me catch some fish.

Rod/reel is very subjective and dependant on the size of your wallet.  

My person favorite lures are:

1) twitchbait (e.g. mirrolure  mirrodine):  basically twitch the rod tip 2-3 times, reel in slack with a pause, twitch.  Keep repeating.  

2) gold spoon, just reel it in changing up retrieve speed.  

3) gulp and jig head.  sink to the bottom, twitch and reel.  (just keep repeating)

Texas rig is a soft plastic rigged weedless.  Use an offset hook,like Owner.  Very effective.  BTW I love Mirrolure 19rs for Snook.

Mirrodines are great, soft plastics are great with Zman the best for overall longevity. I personally like the Rapala Shadow Rap Shad 09 shallow. You also need to specify salt or fresh water!

I prefer the Shadow Rap as well, though I fish with folks who still swear by Mirrodines.  I'll stick with the Shadow Rap personally.  Only complaint with the Shadow Rap is how awful the hooks are.

It is a bass lure, so I change out split rings and hooks before I ever tie it on. The rings and hooks will fail on most every redfish, regardless of size. I learned that the hard way with a bunch of lost fish and straightened or broken hooks.

Same here, meaning I learned the hard way.  And it was a double hit because I ignored your advice and just ran with the standard hooks.  I lost one slot snook to bent hooks and a second unknown fish (I'm guessing Tarpon) where the split rings just pulled off completely.  There was a large fish under the mangroves, I tossed and got drilled, set the hook....  and reeled in a lure with no hooks.  To your point, yep I don't even tie the lure till I replace the split rings and hooks.  Had I heeded your advice....  oh well, only myself to blame.

If it makes you feel any better, I did the exact same thing. I was told do not throw without changing hooks and rings. I just blew it off and lost a dozen fish before i fixed the problem.
