How Y'all are?

redsgurlredsgurl Posts: 618 Officer
Been workin and not had much time to get out. I hope everyone is doing well.  We rode out to the refuge today and killed half a day. It was nice to have the sun on my face. I probly won't be sayin that in a month from now. Lol.
This Heron had his beak full for a while with this snake. I don't know if he thought the whole thing through, but he managed to make a nice meal out of it.

Saw a Banded Water Snake (?)

Found some baby gators in the duckweed. They are so cool. I scared 'em and they started cryin for their mama, Never saw her though, but I'm sure she was nearby.

Found a hawks nest a couple weeks ago. Saw both of the adults today, but not at the same time in the nest. I'm assuming there are either eggs or babies; they are pretty vocal all the time, and in and out.

Enjoyed your photos. My favorite one is the Snake and the Blue Heron.
I have been bored only taking a few short hikes close to home since some parks are closed and the state parks at 5 pm.
A banded Watersnake that was laying on the trail in the middle of the woods.  Nearly stepped on it.

I found this pair doing their things in my shoe that I left out on the porch.

Super cool. Turn your shoes upside down when they are outside. :D  So. If your snake is a banded water snake, do you know what mine was? Yours is a lot darker. Maybe coz it's older?.

The snake looks like a Banded Watersnake.  Color does vary on them from light to dark.  Here is a video I took of a Juvenile Cottonmouth blending perfectly with the leaves on a trail and a huge Banded Watersnake. As you see the Cottonmouth is lighter than an older Cottonmouth.  They darken with age.

Moon Shadow, cool video. That water snake was huge. Thanks for the clarification y'all.  Thanks Fishing. They are all over the refuge right now. Glad you like the pictures. Come on over and post some!

Wow. That coral snake is big. I found one that was 29 inches and thought it was huge. We have a ton of the black widows at.work. usually hidden. Never seen a brown. Pretty, if you like spiders. I personally do. I deem her beautiful. Manatees is where the love ends. I almost died because of a manatee. I was cleaning the bottom of a boat in a marina.  I guess the scraping made her wonder what I was doing. She came up under me and pinned me against the hull. Split.my head open on the strut.  Then used her flipper to push off of me, breaking ribs on that side. Bout drowned in that marina. Dropped my weights,  pushed myself with one hand to the gunnell. I couldn't do anything but float. A clammer came and pulled.me onto their scow. I pictured myself in heaven telling everyone I drowned coz  of a manatee. Funny now, but not then. I don't love a manatee. But. That picture is beautiful. I love the springs.

I love buntings. I think you are right, they are truly one of our unicorns. That monocular thing you do is pretty cool. Gives a cool vignette too. I don't know what kind of phone she has, but I want one. Sheesh. I'm gonna venture a guess on your hawk and say red shouldered. I can only tell by their tail, they have bars that run horizontal. I love the tone of it though. Aren't orb weavers neat? Diggin that one...  Spiders are like bees and ants, they don't get much rest..... Yeah, people think manatees are these slow moving gentle giants. Thats a bunch of ----. Besides eating most of the grass in the river, they will ram you, tip you, etc. Being soooo strong, they really are dangerous. I agree with them being so fast too. If there is a few of them and one spooks, they all do. That can get ugly in a hurry. I know that scared you, and Im glad the boat didn't flip and you guys were ok. When something like that happens, it's a shock! I'm glad I'm still here too.

I love to hike so I take my Digital Camera with me and snap away.  So 2 months ago I decided to put the photos into videos and started a Youtube channel for the fun of it.    I have over 80 released videos so far from most places here in Northern Florida  Here are a couple of them.

I should know what this is ... but I am not sure.  This is one taken through the monocular.

That is an extremely light form of the Florida subspecies of Red Shouldered Hawk (extimus subsp). Very cool individual.
I have never seen live bones, but I know that they are often used by rich people to decorate the interior.

Lots more brown widows in FL than black.  In east central FL I see 90% browns when I find widow's nest. Lucky for us, the brown does not aggressively defend the web like the black widow does.
Most of the time, you almost have to put your hand down right on one to get bit. They will make you sick, although some say not as bad as the black widow, I don't really know.

The browns come in light colors all the way to almost totally black.
Easiest way to tell is the brown widow eggs have spikes and kinda look like little sandspurs. Black widow eggs are smooth.

i am going to guess what that manatee had in mind was some sort of relationship. with or without your approval

years ago, anchored up in a shallow cove had a couple get very "friendly" with us while we were just hanging out in the water. they were a couple of big ones & i kind of recognized that look in their eye!
i will just say i don't buy into that whole Buffet, save the manatee BS. they can move really fast when they want to---

    .
For some reason all of Fishingpervert's posts show as blanks on my screen, but obviously others are seeing something.  What makes the difference and how can I make them show ??

Since I am stuck in the house I made a slideshow of wildlife in Paynes Prarie State Park.  These were taken over several visits over the years.

Not you guys, I'm sure.  You all are def not rude.  FP liked stirring the pot (if you couldn't tell by his screen name).  He was also horribly informed on many things.  A combination that led to a bit of chastisement by others.  I'll admit to being guilty of that..  This all occurred on the other subforums.
And yeah, I had a time out.  Whiskey induced loss of inhibition and politeness :D

Lol. Welcome back. I never got booted. Got a warning. 😮. Left for awhile.  Came back and it's a lot different. But it still feels home. Kinda. I'm glad we didn't upset FP.
