Merck’s Covid Pill Could Pose Serious Risks, Scientists Warn

Merck‘s announcement that its antiviral molnupiravir had halved hospitalizations in a trial of high-risk Covid-19 patients was met with enthusiasm on Friday, inspiring a vision of a world in which treating a Covid-19 infection could be as trivial as swallowing a few pills.

Some scientists who have studied the drug warn, however, that the method it uses to kill the virus that causes Covid-19 carries potential dangers that could limit the drug’s usefulness.

For a self proclaimed data guy you sure find it easy to ignore the fact that the vast majority of those hospitalized were the unvaccinated, and this was also the Delta variant so not apples to apples.

So, in short, your disingenuous observation is a data fail.

But everybody was unvaccinated last year...   while in 2021 only 50% of the population is unvaccinated.

Sounds like we still need a plan and effective leadership.

Or you could finally admit that controlling a virus is darn near impossible, thus blaming individuals for outbreaks is just simply wrong.

Your call, I'm having fun either way.
If only there was a way to memorialize your actual words...
I thought it was obvious I was specifically referencing covid 19.   Sorry I gave you too much credit in ability to follow an argument.

Since you know better than I, what is prediction for when Corona viruses will be eradicated?

Don't be shy.  Let us hear your prediction.
Silly me for using the actual words you typed to attempt to ascertain your meaning. I guess science class didn't include the use of the word "a" as opposed to "the" though it's a pretty important distinction. But, keep spinning.

My prediction is the Corona virus will be controlled as soon as the anti-public health, anti-vax, anti-reality forces, and those that intellectually dishonestly defend them simply to be contrarian get with the program and stop taking so much pleasure in harming our community.

On the 6th of January 1777, George Washington wrote to Dr. William Shippen Jr., ordering him to inoculate all of the forces that came through Philadelphia. He explained that: "Necessity not only authorizes but seems to require the measure, for should the disorder infect the Army . . . we should have more to dread from it, than from the Sword of the Enemy."
Did George Washington mandate smallpox vaccines for Continental Army
‘All the forces that came through Philadelphia’.  Big difference between that, and forcing every last man woman and child in the country to take an experimental drug.  LOL..you’re getting very desperate. What disorder was he referring to?
It was. And, you know, the first vaccine mandate law was enacted in the United States in 1809 for smallpox. But the Supreme Court in 1905 in a very famous case called Jacobson v. Massachusetts upheld a Cambridge City law, which required smallpox vaccination. That was something where the Supreme Court said that we don't have a right to place other people at risk. And by 1922, in another case, Justice Brandeis, writing for unanimous court, upheld childhood school mandates, calling it settled law.

Come on man! 😆 I didn’t ask you for a copy and paste job.  I only asked which disorder was Washington referring to. So here we go from 1777, to 1809, 1905, 1922 we’re all over the place here LOL.  Also smallpox is more deadly than a politiflu with a 99% survival rate that kills mostly already unhealthy obese and elderly people. As you like to say, ‘your apples are oranges’ 😆
    Point still stands.

Vaccine mandates are as old as the republic and have been ruled constitutional over and over.

They are, in fact, as American as apple pie.

You do like apple pie, don't you, or is that submission as well?
So you are cool with slaves too?  Cause George Washington had them too.
Show me a vaccine, one that actually prevents you from spreading a disease and is proven over the long run to be safe and I'll consider... but in the meantime, I wont be supporting your choice to buy slaves.

You do realize what the Y axis is?

Normalize for population and add deaths and please do let us know what conclusions you can then make.

HINT: What you will see is that Sweden is doing worse than its neighbors.

But you should do it for yourself....and more cut & paste is both encouraged and welcomed -- just don't tell part of the story.

The constitution they hate is now valid because vaccine mandates for a glorified flu with 99% survival rate are deemed ‘constitutional’ (according to them). Oh, it exists all right.  You just choose to keep your eyes closed because it flies in the face of your skewed perspective and inability (or intent) to figure out what the Y axis is, add deaths, and normalize for population.

Sweden is doing worse, much worse, than its closest neighbors yet you seem to believe the exact opposite.

Maybe say Covid is the flu again, go on an anti-government freedumb rant, or tell another joke that you only laugh at or something -- anything to avoid the facts you are so intent to ignore.

Even though she has stage 5 kidney disease that puts her at risk of dying without a new kidney, Lutali, 56, said she could not agree to be vaccinated because of the role that stem cells have played in the development of vaccines.

“As a Christian, I can't support anything that has to do with abortion of babies, and the sanctity of life for me is precious,” she said.
Talk about somebody who needs to understand science better. The fetal cells used in research are 1000 generations removed from the original cells harvested 40 years ago. There is no harvesting done today.
It's her choice. I wish her well.
But it is sad when someone risks their life over bad information and some garbage they read on the internet. I bet she has taken a common medicine that used fetal cells in the research.

I do wish her well though.
Conviction is very admirable. You're not concerned that she's being denied potentially life saving surgery?
She is being denied nothing. All she has to do is get the vaccine. Her ignorance is causing her issues. It is her choice to refuse life-saving surgery by refusing the vaccine. She is causing her issues,

It's her choice. For someone who is all about choice you seem to have a problem recognizing it.

As for the HIV question, in the early days of discovery, a HIV patient would have been denied.
Well unless the patient plans on having sex with other patients pre and post surgery, bad analogy with an AIDS patient compared to a
    Respiratory virus that can spread
to others who are compromised post surgical. (My buddy who’s a chiropractor in Colorado Springs almost died post surgical from Covid in the hospital). And  Ferris,
there were absolutely surgeries with no denied admittance with early AIDS victims.

I was speaking of when HIV first hit the airwaves and everyone was running around in hysterics.
A lot of political hysterics running around now.

Again, In your opinion is it OK for a medical professional to turn away someone who needs a lung transplant based on a kung flu vaccine? Did these medical professionals not work prior to the vaccine?

To me it's just a political stance which medical professionals should avoid

Interesting isn’t it, the same crowd who refers to the founders as oppressive slavers, evil white men who founded the country on ‘white supremacy’ claim the constitution is ‘outdated and archaic, doesn’t apply today’, rally for bigger government and more taxes which the founders were against, are now all the sudden champions of George Washington because he wanted his troops inoculated and equate that to nationwide vaccine mandates for a glorified flu with 99% survival rate. The constitution they hate is now valid because vaccine mandates for a glorified flu with 99% survival rate are deemed ‘constitutional’ (according to them). The mental gymnastics of Woke Religionism 🍿😆👍
    That's hysterical.
How so? And what about obsessively demanding the entire country regardless of health and antibody status be injected with an experimental drug over a glorified flu that mostly kills obese and elderly? Referring to those who don’t comply as ‘deliberately trying to harm or kill others’ is that hysterical?

Hey now....I'm just using y'alls own word to describe things. I thought you'd be happy. Over the last 12 months or so you, BB, Treeman and others have obsessively used the word. Seems like y'all are the hysterical ones. I'm trying to use the word "woke" as that's another of your buzzwords. I haven't got there yet but I will.

BT lists various diseases and I ask if they are annual vaccinations.  CAD turns around and falsely claims I 'implied' they were single doses with no boosters.

I wonder if CAD can figure out why I ignore him completely 99% of the time.

And of course Tarp jumps because reasons.

People on OT will go out of their way to prove a point. I will admit that I don’t know anything about anything I just post what I feel in my heart. I could care less about googling the “facts”. As the “facts” or just written by fellow human beings giving their opinions also.

Well, to be fair I prefer to use ‘outrage’ most of the time 😆  The hardcore vaccine mongers nationwide have indeed become hysterical, and outraged.  I was just pointing out how many members of that crowd often downgrade the founders as ‘racist, sexist, every other anti-woke type of ‘ist’, now use one of them as an example of ‘vaccine mandates being as old as the republic’ which isn’t exactly an accurate statement either (meanwhile accusing others of spreading misinformation 😆). Which I find funny.  If I were truly hysterical I wouldn’t find any of this funny.  I’d be p/o’d. This is Clown World!  Taking Clown World serious is not good for ones overall well-being.

Honestly we aren’t the hysterical ones, we aren’t trying to dictate how others live their lives, we are not fear mongering over an over-sensationalized and highly politicized virus, digging the internet for social media covid sagas and snickering over the deaths of those who do not conform to our will, celebrating people losing their jobs after risking themselves during the time when there was no virtue serum to mandate, basically calling others murderers for not taking the experimental.  That is hysteria.  Don’t know what else to call it.  I may be repetitive but I really can’t dedicate too much effort.  Because I’m already spending so much effort to try and deliberately harm and kill people apparently 😆

It isn’t about public health at all.  What it all boils down to is that you subscribe to a narrative, and want to be right, or at least seen as right and for people to conform to your views and your will. ‘Achieved compliance’ is the name of the game.

Many of the public weren’t healthy long before this saga came about.  Now all the sudden public health matters. Okay 😆

Don't correct Keller, he had listed it as a virus.
He posted the list?  Is he ghost writing and arguing with himself?
His list is after Bimini's. Tetanus is on it. Implied you only needed one shot and no boosters list
    .
You mean a chemist got immunology wrong in an attempt to argue the self-evident?

    Shocker!
More reaching.  Again, BT introduced bacterium, Keller just responded to it.  Circle the wagons ladies!
BT listed a series of vaccines in response to Keller.  Keller's response was taken apart by Cad in post #18954.  No need to circle the wagons, the Indians have already left.

I guess I shouldn't expect a Chemist to catch it.
You guys are as deliberately obtuse as you are humorless.  I posted about BT listing bacterium as viruses and you deflect to Keller.  Good work.
    Speaking of deliberately obtuse.

So, tell me, why did BT list them?

    Or was that a joke?
