Having problems with my 135 optimax, usually take it to Haskell marine but their so expensive. Any suggestions?

I have twin 225 Opti's and I always take it Jeff Reedy at Isle Of Palms at Drs Inlet Bridge on 17. I have been using him for 8 years and have always had quality work at a fair price. I can highly recommend him.....Joe

Ed or Charlie @ River Marine is who I use....Always seem fair to me and they do great work.

Marinemax is also a great choice. Not to take anything away from the local mobile guys but i think it's always safer when you do business with an authorized dealer. No matter how good a self employed mechanic is you can't really compare to a place that can warranty parts, and has certified mechanics that are not only experienced but get memos daily from Mercury that give updates on things that are changing, better ways to fix problems, and heads up on potential problems that are happening regularily on engines nationwide. Plus it's good to know when a business is nationwide and you don't have to worry about them dissapearing on you. With this economy i wish the best for any smalltime mechanic trying to make it on their own, however sometimes those guys are so hungry they take on jobs that they don't have the tools or knowhow to do. Nowadays motors have computers on them and if you don't have the updated softwear you could be lost and replacing parts that don't need it in a blind effort to troubleshoot. I have used Marinemax multiple times and they are not only fast but last time they came to my house, picked up my boat, and returned it before the weekend ready to go...
