20 Jan 2020...Wabasso/Vero...Dressed for the weather, shorts and 3 shirts. Mother was being cruel today, kept the big yellow orb covered with gray blankets most of the morning. Once she made the great reveal, everything was fine. Slight breeze kept things interesting. Rollers and white caps on the flats, killed that part of the plan. Most of the water is dirty, figure that it is due to the wind. Rag Bagger Parade going South, hope that this is the last of the winter migration. Started and finished the day at Hobart Landing, flats too rough, fished the island, 19 inch Trout in the morning and Snapper City in the afternoon. Pine Island, pair of short Snook, and a slot Trout. Snapper hole, one lost soul. The spoil island that very few fish because everyone fishes it gave up a 17 inch Trout. Sisters, dead, had a Dolphin doing donuts where I was casting. Headed South to the rest of the islands, Trout and Ladies, picked up a full blown Dolphin escort. Give up and head to the Estuary No hits, but saw a few Uglies. Rag Baggers Row. Met a big Snook, Ms Hester the Molester. Pitching docks in Vero, nothing. Decide to work the backsides from the side. Pitched back between a set of pilings, hookup, something small, half way in grew a heavy set of legs, took a little drag then started to come in. Got a clear look, big Snook ate the catch. Spit the fish out, continued to bring it in. Snook swallowed it again, ran a little and spit it. Almost at the boat, like a foot away, she ate it one more time, short run and spit it. Right at the boat, she came back a fourth time, made a loud smack and finally left. The victim was a 10 inch Snapper. Reason for no hook in the Snook, Baby Vudu Shrimp has a small hook and it was buried in the Snapper. Jacks, Ladies and snapper were hungry. Back through the Estuary to Johns island/Vero, Snapper, Ladies, Trout and Jacks. Canal, Ladies, Jacks and Trout. Wrap up the day, energy level low. Boated 9 Trout (7 slots), 7 Snook and way too many Jacks and Snapper to cout. All players released for future encounters.
