But, many people were strung out after being prescribed drugs after normal procedures.
One reason was the "detail men" ( and women ) who went to doctors offices to encourage high doses.
Another reason was the promotion of "pain management" in the entire medical community.
The pendulum swung way too far in the direction of alleviating all pain, all the time.
Now, we're stuck with the aftermath, and must pay the piper.
Government didn't care when poor Black & Brown people were strung out.
Even poor Whites were off the radar when addicted ... not anymore.

I agree but also agree with Ferris. Yes in the beginning the Drs. might not have realized what was going on but should have caught on real quick if they were Drs for the right reasons.

They pushed Oxycontin at higher dosages, claiming it wan't addictive, when they knew better.
Government "watchdogs" were pressured to go light on "industry", and had their budgets cut.
"Burdensome regulations" and "job-killing rules" were just ignored, for decades.
