NOAA forecast was for winds 10-15 knots and seas 2-3ft. Exited the inlet at 8 am. Met by 3-5 ft seas and 15+knot winds out of SE. My 24ft. Hydrasport went airborne just outside inlet, luckily I was going slow, so we didn’t get hurt. Headed south in 100ft. Big mistake. Seas were so rough couldn’t safely put lines out. Donned our life jackets (first time in 4 years felt it was needed). Turned north, and ride was a bit better. Got lines in water. Thought about heading back through BBI but felt it was too dangerous as the sea was following. Decided to head up to LWI as the safer option. Trolled all the way up, as we really couldn’t comfortably make more than 7 knots. Off the Breakers starboard reel screams as a big fish pulled 100yards off the reel in 5 seconds (wahoo?) Unfortunately he hit our ballyhoo short and was gone after initial run. A little later the same rod gets knocked down - smaller fish. A mahi. Got him near to the boat but couldn’t get him in because winds picked up even more. Too much rock n roll. Finally got to LWI and called it a day Had a nice lunch at Sailfish Marina, and happily rode the intercostal home. Tough day on the ocean.
