I'll be happy but only if they have a decent coach ready to go in a couple of weeks. Nothing against Mel Tucker but this team needs some proven leadership.
This year is a loss, so I imagine they're going to take their time. There's no rush to bring someone new in right now. Tucker has done a fine job with the defense and the offense can't get any worse. I wish they'd have fired Koetter and the QB coach but whatever, they're gone at the end of the season. Tucker may stay on, and deservedly so, as D-Coordinator.
We're likely not going to get John Gruden or Tony Dungy or Cower. All three have very lucrative deals on TV and have already had offers to coach more established teams. I think we look to one of the ascending offensive minded coaches, like Jay Gruden, Joe Philbin, Pete Carmichael, Brian Shottenhimer, or Rob Ryan would all be my first calls, with Jay Gruden and Philbin at the top of the list, Philbin #1.
However, not sure they're allowed to hire someone working during the season, so any of those active coaches would likely not be until the off-season anyways.
Good move in the right direction. Unfortunately, I have not received any calls yet. I will keep you posted if I receive an offer.
I'm sure the Jags will go looking for a discount coach.:banghead
Why? They didn't discount Del Rio. He was very well paid. They didn't discount any free agents this off-season, they all got paid. They're going to get someone good, just give it some time.

I disagree on this point Chuck. I think this team needs leadership now. They need to bring someone in for the rest of the season for two reasons. One, that gives the coach time to evaluate the whole organization while it is still the season. At the end of the year, the coach should know who is staying and going. Second, I think the fans deserve to have some hope. Bringing in an established, winning coach will help to keep the seats full for the rest of the year. I think you are correct we can't poach someone working for another team right now but there are a number of good coaches out there. Hopefully one of the TV heads will be tired of their cush job and be ready for a BIG "challenge" LOL
Well, you can evaluate the offense by watching one or two possessions. That doesn't take five games. The defense is good as is. A new coach would likely not want to start right now. He's going to want to start fresh with his own staff, players, etc. Tucker will do fine for now, take your time, interview lots of people. This is a big decision, not just replacing a kicker here. The fanbase needs someone to get excited about and someone to give faith we are headed in the right direction. A hasty decision now could be costly, IMO.
Philbin ??....I was wondering why he left the Regis and Kelly show....what is he eighty ?? :grin
Anyway...I agree, that they don't need to do anything this season....just let Tucker carry it through to the end, and make a good decision as to who the hire....
Besides, I'm not sure Regis will make it through the winter.

So you would be willing to eliminate all of the active coaches from consideration just to have "hope" for the rest of the year?. I think that would be counter productive given that this season is a waste anyway.

If we could get a Dungee or a Gruden then yes, I don't think we need to look further. If the active head coaches are really doing a good job where they are at now then why would they leave to come here at the end of the season? Also, while you can "evaluate" the offensive players by watching one or two plays as Chuck mentioned, how do you know what is really going on behind the scenes with the coaches and staff? You don't until you come in and see what is really happening.
The point is that while we have not been happy with Jack at the helm, if we are not going to go look for another coach NOW, why can him at this moment? He was at least a 500 coach. Do we know Tucker is going to do a better job for the rest of the season? If we aren't going to find a great coach now, then they should have just left it alone for the rest of the year. I think a lot of folks are tired of all the surprises and decisions that look reactionary instead of planned out. If they don't start looking for a coach then I'm going to assume they are going to take another "chance" with an unproven coach that has never had the top job in the NFL and I for one am not ready for more OTJT!
Herm Edwards runs teams into the ground. We need an offensive minded coach. The future of the NFL is a passing game and we need someone with that philosophy to keep up with the high scoring way the league is going.
Personally, I'd rather have an ascending coach than a has been. I think Cower, Dungy, and Gruden are has beens. The only one of those I'd REALLY want would be Dungy. If he won't coach, shoot for Jay Gruden or Joe Philbin from Green Bay. Those are offensive minded coordinators who want to be coaches and they fit the bill of what we are looking to have here.
Getting rid of Jack now is a good decision. It tells the fans we're changing direction. We weren't going to win or lose games on whether Jack was there or not. Tucker will do just fine but I wouldn't count on winning games or seeing a different product on offense. We've got what we've got.
Gruden just signed a new 5 year TV deal. He's out. As for interim coach or coaches, if Jack hired them, fire them. The problems at that stadium run very deep.
I will hit the lottery...I will hit the lottery :crossed
He was, when he had Steve McNair. Vince Young ruined his career in Tennesse, not to be said he couldn't spark it up here again. I wouldn't mind Fisher and like the way he coaches, but he's hated Jacksonville for years.

They'll all be gone, save Tucker. Tucker may have a shot at staying on, and turning the defense from dead last to top five, he deserves it.
I'm talking about Jay Gruden, John's brother. He's the OC in Cincy right now and has turned that team around with a rookie QB. We need that here.
RIIIIIIIGHT!
Like any proven winner would want to come to Jacksonville... One of the premier cities in the NFL...ah no. One of the strongest fan bases...ROFLMHAO. One of the most promising group of athletes... A free spending supportive owner? Think again.
Name any team in the NFL that is a worse place to go coach?
QUIT DREAMING. The best thing that could happen to the Jags is for them to move. And that si just plain and simply the truth.

There are teams who have had bad teams for DECADES. We haven't begun to suffer as a fan base compared to Cleveland, Arizona, or Detroit. etc. Go complain to a Browns fan about our sorrows here and you'd probably get slapped. Those teams managed to hire coaches. Coaches coach, players play. We need more talent, sure. What about Indy, think they're going to struggle to hire a coach even though their team is decimated? The Titans managed a coach hire last year and fired a guy we're discussing hiring here.
If we can add a high scoring, high passing offense here, fans will support it. There were screaming fans there Sunday when we all knew we were going to lose.
Think there's a coincidence why UF had its first NON-sellout game this year in 180 something games? What do they play, six at home per year? 180/6 - 30 YEARS. Not much of a coincidence, they suck. Now, just two years ago people were paying $500 for a ticket outside the game. Winning.
"It's a college town that won't support the NFL." The "college town" doesn't support the UF/FSU games when they don't win, especially when they play boring, predictable football.

The Redskins. Owner who thinks that spending money is the solution to the problem, lots of talented players, big market, large fan base and a total freaking disaster.
The fact of the matter is that the Jags are an NFL team with a talented D and a young O with a three time all-pro running back. While we may not be attractive to a former super bowl winner we would be an ideal spot for a talented up and coming coach.
This last comment isn't directed at Frisbee but which is it - do we give non producing players and coaches huge contracts or are we cheap, not willing to spend any money to field a winning team? You can't have it both ways.

I wish but last I heard nope. How about Gruden? He is a tough one but maybe this team needs that.
We need a real coach.
Not a HS coach ready to move up.
