Great Signs of Life on Beach/ Question

Went to check on my Mom's condo and my family and I took a walk down to Bonita Beach.  The signs of life were encouraging.  TONS of bait and plenty of fish and birds busting the water all around us.  Saw some snook and what I think was a Cobia.  At first I thought it was a shark but the body didn't look right for a shark.  I have only seen a few Cobia before so not sure.
Will Cobia cruise the beach right up on shore?  Didn't have time to fish there this weekend but definitely planning on next weekend!

I'm far from an expert on cobia, but I have never seem them that close to the beach.  I would suspect it was something other than cobia.  Anything is possible.  I know the run along beaches, but even still I was under the impression they were a good 500+ yards out from the beach.

We used to catch them regularly on the local piers in Miami.

We have a caught a few in the deeper holes in Charlotte Harbor.  One of my favorite fish to eat.
