Flounder?

Does anyone target flounder around here? (Pine Island sound, passes or beaches, Matlacha, Charlotte Harbor)

Looking for some 'easy' fishing with my elderly dad to produce some table fare as trout, reds and snook are not available to keep at this time. Pompano would be another option.

By 'easy' I mean that he cannot stand for hours at a time while were on the trolling motor. something where we could drift a little or use the talon and he could sit and cast.

Any help would be appreciated. Bait: live or dead shrimp? gulp?  Location (not your gps #'s) but general areas, power lines, causeway, beaches, burnt store...

Thanks

You should take him south by Goodland where they are legal. The bite has been on fire and you can just drop the power pole and fish.

Flounder can't really be targeted around here. There are some spots that produce regularly, but are few and far between and when I say produce regularly I mean you may get one or two during certain times of the year. Why not try for Mangroves or Whiting or Sugar Trout. All are good eating and available. Another good one is Spanish, they are nearly everywhere right now and great eating fresh.

I will be down in the Charlotte Harbor area in a few weeks, good time to target Spanish?  I've had good luck with them hitting spoons off the West Wall.

I agree... Its not uncommon for us too have 50 plus fish days right now. Sunday caught several goliath, several reds and i lost count on the snook. Trout are around but just not the time of year to catch the numbers we do in winter.
All fishing was either power pole down or drifting flats.

They should hang around as long as conditions stay the same, which they typically do till mid October. Right now you can't but help running into them.

Nice, thanks for the information.  I have a few spots marked on the GPS where we have caught a few in the past.  I might have to target them a bit when I get back down.  Thanks West.

Thanks for all replies. I did not even think about snapper, they are abundant and tasty. Will keep Goodland suggestion in mind.

Are Spanish most commonly found around the passes or can they pop up anywhere in the sound or harbor?

My experience, while less than West, is in agreement.  Anywhere.  I've caught them throughout the harbor, as far north as the Hog Island.  I'm far from an expert, but I have luck with Spanish in the harbor taking fast moving spoons.  I may actually try to target them in a few weeks, since I can keep those.  I'll attempt to avoid anything I can't keep.
